Funny boat names
150 funny boat names that still look good in steel
A good joke on a transom has to work twice: once when your friends read it on the dock, and again every single time you say it to the harbourmaster. These are the ones that survive both.
The 10 best funny boat names

1
Knot Working
The out-of-office reply, in steel. It works because it reads clean over the radio and nobody has to ask you to spell it.

2
Liquid Asset
The accountant joke every boat owner secretly believes. Twelve letters sits perfectly on a mid-size transom.

3
Aquaholic
One word, instantly understood, and the most requested funny name we cut. If you want short and cheap, this is it.

4
Seas the Day
The pun everyone gets on the first pass, which is exactly why it survives. Carpe diem for people who own a bilge pump.

5
Ship Happens
Mild enough for a family boat, honest enough for anyone who has changed an impeller at anchor.

6
Pier Pressure
Reads as a joke from the dock and as a statement of fact at any marina bar. Short enough to order a size taller.

7
Vitamin Sea
The one that sells on merchandise as well as transoms. Particularly good in a script face.

8
Nauti Buoy
A classic that has been on transoms for forty years. If you want people to smile rather than laugh, this is the safe pick.

9
Second Mortgage
Funny because it is not really a joke. Fifteen characters, so most owners drop a size to fit it.

Reel Estate
The best of the fishing-and-money puns, and it lands even on a boat that never fishes.

The test a funny name has to pass
Say it out loud as a radio call: Sea Tow, Sea Tow, this is Knot Working. If it is confusing, ambiguous or embarrassing over the air, it will annoy you long before the paint fades. Puns built on real words beat puns built on spelling tricks, because a coastguard operator has to be able to write it down.
Keep it short - it costs less and reads better
We price per letter, so every character is real money and real transom width. Two short words is the sweet spot: readable from a distance and still inside the flat of the transom. Spaces are free, so a two-word name costs no more than one long one.
Want to see one on your own boat?
Every name above opens straight in the design tool. Type it, pick from 21 typefaces, choose 2, 3 or 5 mm, and upload a photo of your transom to see the letters at true scale before you order.
