Classic boat names
150 classic boat names with a century behind them
These have been on transoms since sail numbers were painted by hand: virtues, family names, guiding lights. They date the least because they were never trying to be clever in the first place.

Serif or script, not condensed sans
A traditional name in a modern condensed face fights itself. Cinzel, Playfair Display and Libre Baskerville all carry the period correctly, and a script like Kaushan works on a name that came from the family rather than from the sea. You can compare all of them on the same name in the design tool.
Renaming a boat, if you care about that
Plenty of owners still hold a denaming before a renaming - old name off the hull and out of every log and lifering first, new name on afterwards. Whether or not you believe it, it is a good excuse to get the old vinyl off properly before the steel goes on.
